Unifying Democracy Bar

September 18th, 2006 by Nicholas Reville
the democracy bar

We’ve just added a thin unifying navigation bar to the top of the Democracy websites. Take a look at one of the sites, for instance: Video Bomb.

The idea behind the bar is to try to connect people to the constellation of sites that we’ve built and help convey the idea that Democracy is a platform of tools and information, not just a desktop app. Basically, it’s branding.

So far, we haven’t put this bar up on getmiro.com (seems unnecessary…) or on the Channel Guide (still not quite ready to be a good standalone website). Eventually, we probably will.

One Response to “Unifying Democracy Bar”

  1. Nate says:

Excellent! Yes, when I see the sites listed in the nav bar the immediate implication is a family of sites, a platform. The effect is there, in other words. And the bar itself is looking good.

On the other hand, IMHO the bar ought to be on getmiro.com as well. If I were completely new to the concept of the Democracy platform, I might not understand why the relationship/link among the various sites “breaks” when I navigate from some other site (say, Video Bomb) to getmiro.com. Just one example, of course…

Anyhow, keep up the great work!
