Verdi, what do you prefer– “WEB PAGE” or “PERMALINK”?
I prefer “permalink” or “permanent link” but “web page” might make sense to more people.
That was our initial thinking… however, people who are interested in going to the webpage might tend to know what ‘permalink’ means. It’s definitely a very techy term, however. Anyone else have an opinion on this?
Why no Linux builds?
make a permalink, its the standart. any way what the permalink meens in that contekst?
Markus, we only do linux builds for releases. most of our testers can build from the source.
Szczym, my worry about ‘permalink’ is that it’s not totally clear whether it will refer to a link to the video or a link to a web page that has the video embedded. For text blogging, it’s a link to the text. For video, it’s less clear.
Thanks for the new release. It seems Democracy player for mac can read flv files from YouTube. It is great.
One more thing, I would like to delete CG already etablised by default. I would like to create my own guide for my group. It is possible to programm it ? I am not a programmer
How about “LINK”.. this new release looks great so far..
It would be interesting I think to “Star” videos directly from inside the software, without going to the external videobomb or other starring statistics database, and then have a way to receive recommendations for new videos to watch and download on demand.
And some connectivity with Comments for video posts would be nice, possibly comments have a standard posting and reading architechture, so they can be recognized and read and posted directely from within Democracy Player..
I agree with Charbax. What youtube has got going for it, is the fact that it is more than a “internet tv” website. It allows the people who create and watch videos to connect to each other, via comments, and video-responses.
There was one time when open standards and decentralization for communities to communicate where important (the way USENET, and IRC where thought of and developed), but these have stagnated (both in features and usability) and can’t reach the majority of the population which now use the internet. Instead where replaced by centralized managed communities (Messenger, youtube, ubuntuforums), and it’s sadening for me to see more and more net users becoming acostumed with a certain sheepesh behaviour of “he who hosts the site, makes the rules”.
Keep up the nice software, and start thinking about the true web 2.0, which should be a comeback to the original intentions of web 1.0!
