David and I had the pleasure of again making a top ten list of internet picks for Michael Bell-Smith and Cory Arcangel‘s – The Year In The Internet 2006.
This is a good chance to give a shout out to our good friend Michael Bell-Smith, who did a whole lot in 2006: invented digital pogs, put out an awesome album with his band Professor Murder, and had a beautiful show of digital art at Foxy Gallery. He’s also going to be making an intro video for Democracy Player 1.0, so look for that soon.
We are getting close to releasing Democracy Player 0.9.5. This version has lots of new features and an interface overhaul, all of which I will detail soon. We’d love some help testing our latest version.
Warning: this is a testing version and may contain bugs (you might reset your channel subscriptions).
0.9.5 will be the first version with proxy support, so if that’s something you need, try this out to make sure it works for you.
If you find any bugs, please let us know: File a bug report.
We know of one small bug: the new sorting buttons don’t work on channel folders. We’re fixing that today.
Also, we’re wondering about another bug: does this build seem slower to switch between channels on Windows? Does it freeze unexpectedly at times? We saw that with recent builds, but we’re not sure if it’s still happening. Any info would help us investigate.
Almost half of the people that come to this site are from outside the United States. We think that number should probably be even higher.
We’ve just made the front page of GetDemocracy.com translatable (more pages coming soon). But we don’t have any translations yet! Want to help? You can make a big difference in our ability to reach folks around the globe.
Thanks!
p.s. If you want to translate the interface of Democracy Player, there’s always more to be done there as well: Translate Democracy Player (40 languages and growing…)
