Is there a stats package that can tell you the number of subscribers to an RSS feed? Feedburner isn’t really an option for this thing we’re working on. Something like awstats would be perfect…

A couple weeks ago, Mozilla UI Designer Mike “Beltzner” Beltzner came to visit us in Worcester. While he was here chatting about Democracy Player UI and possible Firefox / Democracy integrations, he showed me a Firefox extension called Sxipper which manages passwords and fills out forms for you. It kicks ass. And it has really strengthened my resolve to find a way to build an extension system for Democracy Player, despite the technical magnitude and some justifiable skepticism from the developers here.
The first challenge to making an extension system (which I may have mentioned before) is defining which parts of the app are open to extending. Since we don’t have a clear idea of what types of extensions would be most useful, this problem of scope is a big one. An extension system definitely won’t make it into 1.0, but hopefully we can figure something out not too long after.
I’ve noticed that we’ve been getting a lot of visitors from Japan and Korea recently, but we don’t have website translations in either of those languages. Can anyone help? Translate GetDemocracy.com.
And of course it would be great to get other languages going as well. We have a lot more translations of the Democracy Player interface than we do of the website, but if people can’t read the website, they might never get far enough to see the interface.
Update: Norwegian and Turkish are popular but missing as well.
We’ve just posted another bug fix release, which addresses two problems on Windows: a problem where Democracy Player would get errors on some videos from Yahoo search and a problem that would sometimes prevent Democracy Player from playing the next video after one video finished. This update is recommended for all Windows users and we’ll be turning on the auto-update notification.
