With this launch, we are ready to build a movement for truly open video. We’re on a mission, we have a world-class product, we have an amazing community, and more and more open channels are being published every day. It’s the right time.

Well done – Miro is a great player – http://www.plumi.org/ makes the perfect addition as a FOSS video CMS – provides RSS2 channels that work with Miro.

Love Miro, but still no support for the Apple Remote ? This is a major omission for a media player. VLC supports it, why not take a look at what they’ve done ?
Congrats, but I hope this version actually works, I’ve had the package installed on ubuntu for months and it’s allways crashed out as soon as it loads. Despite filing bug reports it hasn’t been fixed, oh well I hope this version works as I really want to use it.

Woot, just thought I’d come back and say this new version actually works, well done guys, glad to finally have it working.
Miro 1.0 wont install from the repositorys on either my Ubuntu Dapper installation at home, or my Edgy at work. It says missing dependancies. Are you going to release Dapper & Edgy versions?

Pascal – Unfortunately the comments in the forum cover a range of problems. Some were resolved prior to the release, another was a user configuration problem. If you are having a specific problem the best thing would be to create a ticket in bugzilla.pculture.org and include a description and your log files.

Well, I really BELIEVE in the things you do and I believe in free media, beeing a part of it.
I really, really appreciate the work you do with miro – it is really, really important to keep media free.
BUT — sorry — Miro is the best example for anti-software – it is so BLOATED and so extremely slow – this is really unbelievable, Miro is the slowest software I ever have seen on a Windows desktop. I did not test Miro for Linux, because there are no packages for my distro and for obvious reasons I do not want to circumvent the package system (who would do that in 2007?)
Well, I really, really LOVE your ideals – but miro is JUST AN AGGREGATOR + P2P – so how the hell can it be up to 200MB in Memory? Why does it take 10-20 Seconds for a simple MOUSECLICK on an item to react – it takes sometimes up to a minute switching to a channel – miro is really, really the most unresponsive software I have ever seen – it is nearly impossible to USE miro – why does miro spit 150 MB of “icon-cache” into my profile, and all over the same pictures???
Well, the unresponsive and extremely sluggish behaviour of the software would be excusable, if it at least WORKED – but the subscription of channels does NOT work reliable – I have around 200 Channels and lots of them with ALWAYS rotating icons besides their names, but no new videos are loaded.
Well, I must admit, i STILL LOVE your approach – I totally respect you and the things you are trying to do – but PLEASE get some good programmer on board – what you have now, is a bloated catastrophe – miro is a real “anti-software” and a master piece of an example to show how NOT to do software. Hell, why can´t you just use one of hundreds existing user interface implemenations – your “explorer tree” implementation is the worst i have ever seen – there are so many free “explorer tree” examples out there, are you blind?
I would recommend to head over to http://www.wxcommunity.com and try to find an experienced software developer.

Well, I am just telling the truth man, I do not want to hurt you, i want a BETTER miro. Miro MUST get better – ATM it is quite clear that the miro aggregator will evolve to a synonym of “the alternative media” (while video.indymedia.org is still down BTW!!!) – and free media producers need a better basis for their often dangerous work, better than a bloated, not working aggregator!!! WORk HARDER!!! WE ALSO DO, all day and all night!
Now take a spliff, let it deepen and please rethink your software architecture.

i think Miro* is awesome, but it was a huge mistake to base it in Mozilla code, because it caries around some of the problems in firefox to Miro:
errors to load, errors with firewalls and other software, bad memory management, bad cache, etc.
this kind of project would have been perfect to do in .Net but i know that you guys hate .net, but i would rather see it in pretty much anything but Mozilla based code…
i installed in 10 diferent machines(from low to high performance) since the first miro and the only usable version arrived with miro preview and now it is usable with 1.0.. that is not a good sign.
but i wish miro the best.
