Yes! We have just released Miro 2.5, a major update with new features, faster performance, audio podcasts, and lots of polish. Please help us spread the word, tweet about Miro 2.5.
Here are the biggest changes:
• Miro 2.5 launches 2 – 4 times faster (especially for users with lots of videos and feeds)
• New audio podcast section of the Miro Guide
• Better interface for audio playback
• Button to download from YouTube when you add as sidebar site – also see: 4 ways to download files (including torrents) from websites inside Miro
• Smarter handling of bittorrent files, especially videos
• New Library interface with ‘Video’, ‘Audio’, and ‘Other’ sections
• New keyboard shortcuts for virtually all functions (great for programming a remote control)
• Interface polish and refinement
• Easier hacking: the database layer was rewritten to use a simplified SQLite schema and we’ve created a new developer documentation site: Miro Developer Documentation v2.5 (more deets)
• Lots of bug fixes and tweaks
For a more complete list of what’s new and different, see the Miro 2.5 Release Notes.
Important Note: The refactored database sometimes takes a looong time (up to 12 minutes) to process on the first restart after the 2.5 upgrade. It’s especially noticeable if you have a large database, but will only happen once.
Hi,
Downloaded latest 2.5 version and also get the "Not enough disk space" warning, even though I have 300GB free. Using XP. Had to uninstall, and reinstall 2.05.
Looking forward to the bug fixes and using the latest version.
As always, thanks for a great project. I use Miro every day.

simply not working… there seems a running process on the task manager but it shows no window.

Damn you, incompetent developers! After upgrade Miro decided that all videos older than 1 day are expired and deleted them. Even marked as “keep” ones.
I got it!
With my huge existing database miro indeed needed several hours to synchronize/update! I let it synchronize the hole night and V2.5 IS WORKING NOW!
Nice!!!
So be patient and let the harddisc run run run…
@janet: so I am going watching now. Thanks.
Please make a statement when the Ubuntu version will be released!
Why are they not releasing the linux version at the same time?
The title is wrong. Miro 2.5 for WINDOWS is annouced. Others still have to wait [until who knows when?]. I was kind of worried this would happen (again!) seeing the release candidates also have no linux builds.
Perhaps it doesn't even build on linux at this point …
After upgrading to 2.5, I found that all videos in my 'local feeds' – directories added via the "Folders" option – that had been marked as "Played" were no longer available. Only videos that were "Unplayed" showed up. If I then played one of these "Unplayed". the status changed to blank, but the video remained in the library. Everything played before the upgrade was no longer in the library, and the only way I can see to get them back is by deleting and adding the folder again., losing all "Played" information. What happened and is there a better solution??
Steve – I'm going to take a look at this and see if I can see what happened. Can you please email to me your log files? From the Help -> Diagnostics menu, use the Show File option to display the log files.

@ralf,
You can get the 2.5 source for Linux (http://participatoryculture.org/nightlies/Miro-20… and it builds pretty easily (on most systems). Otherwise, you'll need to be patient and wait for a binary for your distribution–we have a very small development team and there's only so much we can do at one time.
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear it's coming.
I have build Miro in the past using the instructions I found somewhere around here. But it messed up upgrading after that. So I think I'll wait .. hope it won't take too long.
Just wondering: doesn't Launchpad have an automatic daily-builds setup available? I have used one of those repositories in the past for trying out Firefox. Perhaps something like that would make getting more feedback and bug reports early on easier? Especially linux users, the sort that doesn't compile things themselves, are very used to filing bug reports. But even though configure/make/build isn't very hard, keeping the system stable and easily removing/updating new version isn't easy.
Secondly I would mention that the Ubuntu version is still 2.0.5 at the download page. I spent about half an hour figuring out what was going on and why i didn't get the update. Especially without any mention that it is coming, we are left wondering it was just abandoned.
The Vista problem hasn't been fully solved. Tried to install the newest available version of Miro on my Vista system several times. I can see the database update starting, but immediately get the "not enough space" message. (And there are 40GB left on my C drive.) Earlier Miro versions worked fine.
Phillipp – did you copy your sqlitedb_backup_pre80 to sqlitedb before redoing the upgrade with the most recent installer from getmiro.com?
Janet: Thanks for the reminder. I did this, and Miro works now. Somehow I had supposed that since this manual bugfix was so easy, it had already been incorporated in the newest installer.
BUT I lost what I guess is the content of the database — all my feed subscriptions are gone. Could this be because I uninstalled Miro at one point, before reinstallation? However, it has retained at least some other user information, e.g. the location of my podcast file folder.
Is there a way to recover my subscriptions?

Just realised I am still using 2.0.5. Wonder if this is the reason why I cannot download videos because they are just starting up and never downloading. I am downloading 2.5 now, not sure if this will fix a problem with downloading videos. Hope will solve it.
@Sarah_Lam
There was an issue with YouTube for a while, so it's quite possible that 2.5 will fix it.

Miro is looking very nice these days.
It still really needs a download scheduler for unfortunate people (like Australians) who suffer from on-peak/off-peak internet pricing.
2.5.1 still has the "left channel scroll eating into the green unwatched numbers" cosmetic bug.
Please update the Ubuntu repos (Jaunty) as soon as you can …
it would be a great idea to have some GUI showing the progress of DB updates or anything that takes a long time during startup as users do not know whether the app froze or what…

david– we actually added exactly that in 2.5.1, you should see a progress bar when your database updates. for many users it will happen to fast to even notice, but for large databases it will help.
odi– yes, it should, but less us know if it doesnt

Hi, just few line to say Thank You! Democracy Player aka Miro rocks! Yesterday I downloaded the 2.5 for Ubuntu and it loads about 10 times faster. I appreciate there is only 1 place for videos and I can click 'unwatched' just to see the new episodes.
With 2.0 I sometimes had some feeds downloaded many times (especially from College Humor Originals) hope this is gone now.
I would also like to suggest following for next versions:
– some possibility to select multiple a say this has been 'watched'
– can we have this for PS3?
– FEEDS tab should be clickable and list the TVs in matrix mode with decent size icons and possibility to search among them. Now I have to scroll a lot to find out why I did not seen episode of some feed for long time.
So one more time, many many thanks for the free open source product, I've adopted a line of Miro and am very happy with Miro.
Robert
I still get the "not enough disk space" warning. Help please!
@stereoit,
Thanks for the encouragement. DId you know you can select multiple items, right click, and "Mark as Watched"?
@Kangnamgu
That's not good
We're still working on a few remaining issues, and if you want to help us solve this, please email Janet your log files (and so should anyone else who is still having this issue with version 2.5.2). Jed (a) PCulture.org

The worst ad/spyware ever (OpenCandy), never install that shit if you want a healthy system.
A A — we did have opencandy in miro 2.0 (we are always looking for ways to support the project so that we can keep building miro) but we had enough complaints and concerns about the way the software worked that we have removed it. so there is no trace of opencandy in miro 2.5, the current version
